I’m delighted to share the news of the launching of my novel “Speechless”.
Fears, phobias, anxiety are part of the human psyche; we are fascinated by characters who confront and eventually learn to overcome these often incapacitating conditions. My novel Speechless, blends drama and comedy, focusing on Fred Viladis, a successful Dentist, who must overcome his phobia. From a childhood humiliation at the hands of a teacher, he carries his fear of speaking in public throughout his life until he is faced with making a speech at his beloved only daughter’s wedding.
At fifty-two, he faces a challenging, painful journey of self-discovery and self-actualization. Through the guidance of a Professional Voice Coach, who unknown to Fred, witnessed firsthand Fred’s tragic fall at the tender age of twelve. Of course, Fred’s ‘tragedy’ is actually something that could happen to anyone that’s been heightened in his own mind; his struggle is an everyman’s struggle, fraught with foibles and natural humour.
The character of Fred Viladis is a composite of the clients and research from the twenty-nine years I have spent as a Professional Public Speaking Trainer and Voice Coach. The novel also deals with issues of empty nesting, generational differences and different types of love.
