I have been working in Speaker Skills for the past thirty years as the Founder, Executive Voice Coach, and Trainer. When I first opened Speaker Skills in 1990, I was the only one in Canada that offered this type of service. I completed my Masters of Education degree at the University of Toronto and was encouraged by my Professors to enter the Ph.D. Program. I chose a different path and from time to time I have thought about returning to complete the degree based on my research and findings. I’m fascinated by what qualities on a global level have consistently proven to be the foundation for professional level speakers. This is very difficult to decide because public speaking trends are constantly changing. Technology is moving so fast that what we like today becomes obsolete tomorrow. There are the basic strategies for effective public speaking such as strong voice dynamics, effective platform mechanics and outstanding presentational style. These can all be learned through a Voice Coach and Trainer. However, if you wish to be a professional speaker at a national and international level you have to reach for the magical level of presentations.
I believe the secret to magical presentations and public speaking is the emotional impact the speaker has on the audience. As part of an audience are you moved in your heart and head to make changes with your thinking and then what you do.
A magical public speaker can transform the way you think, feel and what you do. You walk into a presentation and leave feeling changed or different.
Although public speaking trends, will come and go, the emotional impact a speaker has on your thinking will always be the true purpose of public speaking.
