December 2019 was the Canadian Association of Professional Speaker’s annual Convention. It was an outstanding, valuable experience for all who attended, including me.
Conventions are an excellent way to learn, grow, share and belong. I strongly recommend for those interested in developing their skills in public speaking to attend a CAPS Convention.
Public speaking is an industry where people can earn their living from speaking.
Professional speakers do require expertise in their subject matter but also having the guidance of a group of experts who have practiced, failed and succeeded adds credence to the profession. It gives hope and encouragement when frustration and discouragement are rampant. We all struggle at different times with the challenges of our work. But it is through our struggles that we brainstorm and discover new, inventive ways to deliver our material. Complacency is an undesirable trait as it stifles are need to be creative and does not allow an individual to improve their communication and public speaking skills.
We must always strive to achieve a higher expectation for ourselves and not settle for mediocrity. The more we try to get better and better in our skills, new ideas are formulated that help us reach a higher level of excellence. It is through our commitment to continually learn that we grow and achieve the pinnacle of success as a professional speaker.
The CAPS Convention is an excellent resource to motivate speakers to reach for a level of expertise while educating ourselves to the highest level of professional speaking.
Having the designation of a professional speaker is a gift we can give ourselves through diligence, training, hard work and coaching. Become the best Speaker in 2020.
