You too can learn the strategies and skills to speak like a professional speaker. There are three main components that open the doors for your speaking talent to shine. Without them you do not connect to or engage an audience.
The first technique is the ability to speak with passion. Your topic must be an area that you feel strongly about, believe in and want to share. If the topic and information you are giving is not important to you, it’s better to just e-mail your speech rather than bore an audience who is really not listening or attentive. You are a mirror reflection to your audience. If you are not energized with a desire to share the information you feel enthusiastic about, the audience will not want to listen for long. Find a way to be excited about your topic. There are hundreds of ways to engage an audience with material that is stimulating or dull. Understand the importance of why you are speaking and the value it can offer an audience.
The second technique is the ability to speak with poise. Patience, composure and friendliness in the introduction of a presentation will open many minds. You only have seven seconds for an audience to decide whether they like you or not. Your introduction must be a winning combination of peak performance calm, self-control and exuding warmth. The way you conclude a presentation is just as important as the start. It is the last image they will remember about you. Imagine you are a Royal standing tall, speaking with the elusive qualities of balance, self-assurance and kindness.
The third technique is the ability to have energy. This can be accomplished through non-verbal communication signals such as gestures, twenty-five to fifty tonal varieties to your voice and outstanding platform mechanics. Always remember that the non-verbal communication of every speaker accounts for 55% of their presentation while 38% is based on the tonality of the speaker’s voice. The content of every presentation is only 7% of what an audience will remember. In order to deliver an impressive presentation you need to be energized in your peak performance zone.
Passion, poise and energy are the ‘think these three’ public speaking goals for delivering empowering and rewarding presentations.
