Fears, phobias, anxiety are part of the human psyche; we are fascinated by characters who confront and overcome them. My screenplay, entitled "The Wedding Speech", blending drama and comedy, focuses on Fred Viladis, an ordinary man, whose lifetime fear of public speaking limits his life experiences. From a child experience of humiliation at the hands of a teacher, he carries his fear of speaking in public throughout his life until he is faced with his desire to make a speech at his beloved only daughter's wedding.
At fifty-two, he faces a challenging, painful journey of self discovery and self actualization. Through the guidance of a Professional Voice Coach, who unknown to Fred, witnessed first hand Fred's tragic fall at the tender age of twelve. Of course, Fred's 'tragedy' is actually something that could happen to anyone that's been heightened in his own mind; his struggle is an everyman's struggle, fraught with foibles and natural humour.
